This is a collection of translations of aphorisms, some of which are drawn from the editor's weekly 'thought pages' in the significant and sometimes-controversial Jakarta news magazine, Tempo. Short, thought provoking fragments (described as "flickers") are drawn from the ideas of current and ancient scholars, philosophers and Muslim thinkers and presented for readers who face intolerances and other issues today not all that different from those of the past.
